Melbourne Rides for “Project Walk”
In September, a team of three cyclists from Mustang’s Melbourne office took part in the inaugural 2008 Degani Kinglake ride along with 2,000 other cyclists. The fourth member of the team was unable to ride but donated his entry fee to charity.
The ride benefited the Michael Forbes Foundation. A competitive cyclist/triathlete, Michael Forbes established the Foundation after suffering irreversible damage to his cervical spine in a training accident. His “Project Walk” charity strives to improve the quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries through intense exercise-based recovery programs, education, support, and encouragement.
The ride started and finished in the northern Melbourne township of Whittlesea and traversed some of Melbourne’s most spectacular and challenging cycling country. The ride also included the Yarra Valley and the small town of Arthurs Creek, home of legendary Aussie Tour de France cyclist Cadel Evans.
A party-like atmosphere greeted riders as they crossed the finish line. They enjoyed show bags, a resident band, and a well-deserved massage.
